For more than two decades, Shane Douglas has led complex lighting work from early concept through technical documentation, procurement, construction, commissioning and final focus—often coordinating teams that do not report to him.
Douglas Architectural Lighting grew as a referral-driven consultancy serving nearly 600 commissioned projects across luxury residential, retail, automotive, hospitality, casino/entertainment and commercial environments. The common thread is not a style of fixture. It is translating aesthetic intent into systems that can actually be manufactured, coordinated, installed, controlled and lived with.
Design beyond the fixture.
The best lighting solution is rarely just a better luminaire. It may require changing an architectural detail, developing a custom component, challenging a manufacturer's limitation, coordinating several trades around a few critical inches, or building a physical mockup because a drawing cannot answer the question.
Comfortable in the messy middle.
Douglas Architectural Lighting has often occupied the territory between designer, architect, engineer, manufacturer, contractor and client. That position makes it possible to see where an idea is likely to fail before disciplines retreat into their individual scopes—and to keep working when it does.
Draw it. Test it. Build it.
Details are developed with fabrication and installation in mind. When conventional documentation is not enough, the process has included full-scale mockups, field studies, custom fabrication, manufacturer collaboration and direct experimentation.
The work has ranged from a ten-store Calvin Klein specialty-retail rollout and Park Place automotive facilities for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Porsche and McLaren to highly detailed private residences, hospitality environments and one-off architectural lighting elements developed before LED systems made custom integration commonplace.
